All About Kaiser Permanente

This is a largest integrated health maintenance organization in United State's founded in 1945 based in Oakland, California by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and physician Sidney R. Garfield. Kaiser is a largest not-for-profit managed care organization in the US. Ithas 8.5 million health plan members, 148,884 employees, 12,879 physicians, 37 medical centers, 400 medical offices, and $31.1 billion in annual operating revenues.

Kaiser Permanente provides care in United States by 8 regions. Each of these regions comprise by three co-dependent organizations.

The 3 organizations which make up entities in each region are:


1)Kaiser Foundation Health Plans: Which work with employers, employees, and individual members to offer prepaid health plans. These health plans which are provided by these are not-for-profit and provide infrastructure for and invest in Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and for-profit medical groups.
2)Kaiser Foundation Hospitals: This operates medical centers in three states and facilities throughout the Kaiser region. The hospital foundations which are under this are not-for-profit and primarily depends on the Kaiser Foundation Health Plans for funding.
3)Permanente Medical Groups: This group is partnership with physicians formed in 1948 in North California, which provide and arrange for medical care for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan members in each respective region. Kaiser Permanente is a for-profit partnerships or professional corporations and receive funding from Kaiser Foundation Health Plans.

I am a caregiver for my grandfather, and have taken him to hospitals and doctors much in the past 2 years. I am so impressed with the quality of service and care that Kaiser Permanente provides him with. Every visit, I meet truly happy doctors and nurses who are eager to serve and care for him well. Both he and my grandmother know and like their doctors and their doctors know and like them. I have conversed with the staff in various locations, and they say they really like working for Kaiser. I am very appreciative that Kaiser has treated their employees so well. Its good to know we are going to a place where not only the patients are treated well, but the employees are too. Thank you for everything you do. Recently, I became a licensed Farmers agent. Having seen how Kaiser Permanente provides care, providing this Health Care to my clients will make me prouder of my portfolio of services. I look forward to my appointment..

I cancelled my insurance and a few months later I get a "Final Notice" of past due and they are sending my name to a collection agency and/or attorney." I can not find a contact number except for the person who will not call me..

Back in 1986 I had Kaiser Health Insurance through my employer/union at the time(Bakery, Tobacco and Confectionery Worker's Union) The plan worked fine for me then, I had a vasectomy done, full coverage, great service. I wonder if it is still the same..

Used to be a reasonable cost health insurance option, but rates have been climbing very fast and coverage gradually reduced to keep costs down. They have good doctors and facilities, but have declined covering certain procedures which I paid out of pocket with independent doctors. Example was vericose veins treatment. Spent $3,000 for successful VNUS surgery which should have been covered. Can't be healthy to walk around with bulging veins in your leg. Daughter needed physical therapy and sent us to $300 an hour treatment not covered until 5k deductible met. Best plan we could find being self-employed..
