All About Kaiser Permanente

This is a largest integrated health maintenance organization in United State's founded in 1945 based in Oakland, California by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and physician Sidney R. Garfield. Kaiser is a largest not-for-profit managed care organization in the US. Ithas 8.5 million health plan members, 148,884 employees, 12,879 physicians, 37 medical centers, 400 medical offices, and $31.1 billion in annual operating revenues.

Kaiser Permanente provides care in United States by 8 regions. Each of these regions comprise by three co-dependent organizations.

The 3 organizations which make up entities in each region are:


1)Kaiser Foundation Health Plans: Which work with employers, employees, and individual members to offer prepaid health plans. These health plans which are provided by these are not-for-profit and provide infrastructure for and invest in Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and for-profit medical groups.
2)Kaiser Foundation Hospitals: This operates medical centers in three states and facilities throughout the Kaiser region. The hospital foundations which are under this are not-for-profit and primarily depends on the Kaiser Foundation Health Plans for funding.
3)Permanente Medical Groups: This group is partnership with physicians formed in 1948 in North California, which provide and arrange for medical care for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan members in each respective region. Kaiser Permanente is a for-profit partnerships or professional corporations and receive funding from Kaiser Foundation Health Plans.

Summary
We applied for insurance in Sep 2008 but received a letter stating that we need to get a pregnancy test before we are approved. The letter clearly stated the Kaiser Permanente facility to visit and that the test would be at no cost to us. Few months after the test (which was requested by Kaiser and not by us) we received a bill for the test. On informing Kaiser they realized that the bill was sent in error and asked us to ignore the bill. Few weeks later we again received the bill. Even when we filled an official grievance with Kaiser our request was denied. We still have the letter that clearly states that the test would be at no cost to us and yet Kaiser won't stop from harassing us with bill *** we don't owe *** . Getting hold of representative in yet another painful experience. In short, if you are buying insurance with Kaiser be prepared for harassment..

Whatever you do ...NEVER get the employee savings plan they offer !!! You will pay regular premiums and FULL price for Dr. visits , but you will NOT be able to use this plan because Kaiser picks and chooses what is towards your Deductable and you may as well go to your local Dr , because it will cost the same .With this employee "savings/reimbursment" plan , you pay the full price for everything and you know how Kaiser likes to send everyone for tests and what-not .I'm keeping it for right now , in case of an emergency , but I'll go near my home to a Dr , saves gas too !!!.

As any normal individual, I was also under the tension on how to get an insurance plan that can satisfy my personal needs as well as my family. Price was always a major concern for me. I could say only the very best about Kaiser.. I noticed that people that badtalk Kaiser, usually "know" somebody that had bad experience, or - they just don't understand the system. Kaiser has been very accomodating, friendly, generous and professional to me,- more than any other insurance I had. Also,- I had one doctor I didn't like, so I went to somebody else. Some people would blame their insurance... why?.

Hi, If you have kaiser medical and are on a indvidual plan STAY on it. But if your on a company plan ask to get off and go indvidual. Me and my wife are very upset at these people. 5 years ago she had a abnormality in one of her test. We were fired right after she got her results and went on cobra, then onto kaisers conversion plan. As of today she is paying 405 dollars a month for the 25 co payment plan. If you look you can see it is much cheeper to be on indvidual. We put in for the new plan and was denied. We can not get off of it becuase she was hit by a car and went on workers comp. They say that now she will be on it for another 5 years, and on top of all that they have raised our rate and they will continue to raise..
